Shared from North Country Neighbors for Civic Engagement:
"Election Day 2025 is Tuesday, November 4. It's an off-year election, so the races are mostly local, but we still have a critical job to do this year. As social justice advocate Amy Siskind recently observed:
'Our only chance of making our lives better for the next year is for Republicans to lose on Nov 4, preferably by a lot, and have their colleagues realize they too are at risk if they blindly follow Trump. This would change the tenor of the next year leading up to midterms, and make it better. But in order to win - that means ALL HANDS ON DECK!!! LEAVE NOTHING TO CHANCE!'
Here are some resources to prepare for voting on or before 11/4:
The NY Voter Lookup for checking your registration status.
St. Lawrence County election info with sample ballots and early voting.
A webinar to get informed about a proposition on all New York ballots.
Note: we're working on a special edition of the newsletter with specifics on the contested races in the North Country. Watch for that later this week!
It's also worth noting that there are a few places with votes this November that will have immediate impacts on our struggle for democracy. These include:
Virginia: races for governor and state representatives.
New Jersey: races for governor and state representatives.
Pennsylvania: a state supreme court race.
California: the election rigging response act.
And there are ways to contribute to these votes, even from here in northern NY:
The Potsdam library is hosting a Postcards To Swing States session.
Indivisible is hosting phone banks to get friendly voters to the polls."
