Amber Spinner
Amber Spinner is running for St. Lawrence County Legislature in District 11 to represent the Town of Stockholm and parts of Potsdam.
My Story
My name is Amber Spinner and I am announcing my candidacy for the St. Lawrence County Legislature representing District 11.
I am running as an educator who wants to see students succeed and working families and small businesses flourish, and as an open-minded listener who wants to serve her community.
I graduated from Franklin Academy in Malone in 2007. I hold degrees in Music and Music Education from Onondaga Community College (Syracuse), Nazareth College (Rochester), and the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam.
For twelve years I taught the entire Instrumental Music Program at Brushton-Moira Central School, building deep and meaningful relationships with students, coworkers, and parents through performing concerts, musicals, and deep connections with the community.
I currently teach music at Lawrence Avenue Elementary in Potsdam. In my role as an educator, I have seen the huge impact that access to childcare has on working families. I have seen parents have to make hard choices like staying home or working outside the home, determining which bills they could afford to skip, and finding affordable health care. Heating, electricity, groceries, and gas have all been going up, so families are paying more, but they are not making more.
My organizational abilities, attention to detail, and communication skills have prepared me to work well with community organizations and in public office. I have been privileged to serve the community through my teaching and to provide that community with a source of pride.
As a county legislator I will be transparent and will be a voice for those who are too often unheard. I am open to new ideas and ready to listen. I want to learn from our community, so I can support working families, small businesses, the arts, and education.
