My name is Setcher Krywanczyk. I am proud to announce my candidacy for St. Lawrence County Legislature District 13, representing the Towns of Massena, Brasher Falls, and North Lawrence.

 

I was born in Massena and moved to Brasher Falls, where I graduated from St. Lawrence Central High School with the goal of gaining the skills I would need to work for the people in my community. I went to SUNY Albany and attended the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts for Public Policy. I am familiar with policy and hold a strong belief in transparency to the constituents you serve.

 

After graduating college, I returned to the North Country to remain in the community I care so deeply about. St. Lawrence County has been my home for my entire life, and it was difficult for me to imagine living anywhere else.

 

My family has decades of commitment to St. Lawrence County. My mother built her business here, and my family owned businesses here, serving the people across the North Country, whether it be trucking, bags of ice, a nice meal, or even a nail trim and haircut for your dog. Several firemen and fire chiefs in my family have served the Massena Volunteer Fire Department, and my mother served on the board of the Massena Humane Society for nine years. Even through the kindness of my late grandmother, serving the North Country is in my veins, and I want to continue this legacy of public service.

 

I am currently a foster care caseworker at the Franklin County Department of Social Services. I am familiar with and understand how social services operates. Being in the foster care work environment, I see up close what issues impact families in the North Country and what services they need. I promise to be a strong advocate for the services that make it possible to raise our families in St. Lawrence County.

 

I am also a Union Steward with UPSEU Local 1222 and a member of the North Country Poor People’s Campaign. I understand not just the needs but the culture of the North Country. My work with the Poor People’s Campaign has prepared me for working with others to address the issues of poverty, healthcare, and affordability in the North Country.

 

With my education in policy, experience with social services, and understanding of the North Country, I know I can represent St. Lawrence County in District 13 and better the lives of the people who live here.
