Why I’m Running

St. Lawrence County has been my home my entire life, and it has shaped who I am, both personally and professionally. I am running for County Legislature because I care deeply about the future of our communities and believe we must take thoughtful, collaborative action to address the challenges facing our residents while building on the strengths that make this region such a special place to live.

Over the course of my career, I have had the privilege of serving the public in many roles as a teacher, principal, and school superintendent for 36 years, including 18 years leading the Potsdam and Massena Central School Districts. I have also served in local government as a Potsdam Town Councilman and previously as Town Supervisor. These experiences, along with my work as an adjunct professor at SUNY Potsdam and my involvement in community organizations like Rotary, have given me a broad perspective on the needs of our communities and the importance of strong, effective leadership.

I am running because I understand both the opportunities and the challenges facing St. Lawrence County. Residents have made it clear that concerns about rising energy costs, property taxes, limited job opportunities, housing availability, and access to childcare and elder care are affecting quality of life. If we want to retain our population, attract new families, and grow our local economy, we must focus on these issues with urgency and purpose.

My goal is to work collaboratively with county government, local municipalities, and community partners to keep taxes as low as possible while pursuing smart investments that create sustainable, good-paying jobs. I believe strongly in supporting working families, strengthening our local economy, and ensuring that essential services are accessible to all residents.

Throughout my career, I have worked closely with county departments including social services, public health, law enforcement, highways, elections, and administration. This experience has given me a practical understanding of how county government operates and how important it is to build consensus, solve problems, and make decisions that serve the greater good.

I am committed to bringing a steady, thoughtful, and collaborative approach to the County Legislature, one that listens to residents, respects diverse perspectives, and focuses on real solutions. St. Lawrence County has given so much to me, and I am ready to continue serving and working to ensure it remains a great place to live, work, and raise a family for generations to come.
