Home Depot and Sony to Raise Prices, Cost of Items from Baby Strollers to Deodorant Get More Expensive

Stefanik Backs Trump’s Tariff Tax Hikes That Will Cost NY Families $4,200 on Average

NEW YORK – Hundreds of items from baby strollers to deodorant just became more expensive in the last week due to the Stefanik-Trump tariff tax hikes, according to new CNN reporting. Home Depot and Sony also announced they will raise prices because of Trump’s trade war, and a new analysis today shows how “the corporate pricing dam is cracking” as companies are raising prices due to the Stefanik-Trump tariffs.

The Stefanik-Trump trade war is causing consumers to cut back on spending while core inflation and prices skyrocket. Stefanik has enabled and cheered on Trump’s tariffs that will cost New York families an average of $4,200 and are hurting her own district as businesses struggle due to sharp declines in tourism and farmers stare down higher costs.

Axios: “The corporate pricing dam is cracking — companies are raising prices, or signaling that increases are coming, to absorb some of the costs of the Trump administration's tariffs.”

CNN: “Hundreds of items just got a lot more expensive to import into the US because of Trump’s tariffs”

“Butter knives, baby strollers, spray deodorants and fire extinguishers, considered ‘derivative’ steel and aluminum products, were previously excluded from the 50% tariff… In addition to the 50% tariff on copper-based goods that recently took effect, the levies ‘will likely ripple through the manufacturing supply chain, raising production costs across construction, automotive, and electronics sectors,’ analysts at the Telsey Group said in a note on Tuesday.”

CNN: “Home Depot says it will raise some prices because of tariffs”

New data last week showed that consumers are planning to cut back on spending while core inflation and prices increase due to the Stefanik-Trump tariffs.

ABC News: “Consumer sentiment worsened in August amid sweeping new tariffs”

Financial Times: “US wholesale prices jump 3.3% as Trump tariffs hit economy”

New York Post: “Core inflation heats up in July in sign that Trump’s tariffs are hitting prices”

Stefanik has enabled and cheered on Trump’s tariff tax hikes at the expense of the middle class – increasing costs for New Yorkers and hurting small businesses.

  • Stefanik voted to enable Trump’s tariff tax hikes that will cost New York families $4,200 on average.

    • WWNY: “Congresswoman Elise Stefanik shows support for President Trump’s tariffs”

    • NCPR: “Tariffs and trade threats against Canada have led Canadians to boycott U.S. goods and travel plans… Stefanik said she supports Trump’s tariff approach…”

    • Times Union: “Republican leadership in the house, including Rep. Elise Stefanik from the North Country, has made clear that they don’t plan to stand in the way of Trump’s tariffs.”

  • The Stefanik-Trump tariffs are hurting New Yorkers – including businesses – in Stefanik’s North Country district.

    • New Yorkers are feeling the pain as prices increase and businesses struggle due to declines in tourism.

    • North Country business leaders have been “stunned and confused” by Trump’s erratic trade policy – two-thirds of North Country businesses say they have experienced a decrease in Canadian bookings for 2025, and a quarter have reduced staffing levels as a result.

  • Stefanik also voted for Trump’s Big Ugly Bill that “could cause prices to rise and send interest rates higher.”
